From the desk of the Alumni President

Greetings Fellow Cobras! The 2007-2008 school year promises to be an exciting time for WCHS and Cobra Alumni.  The Alumni Association has planned a year of activities and events that are designed to carry out our mission of “creating, maintaining, and enhancing relationships among Whites Creek High School Alumni, current and prospective students, faculty, staff and friends in order to foster loyalty, interest and support for the School and for one another.”  With this mission in mind, we plan to bring alumni together to meet, network AND have fun!

This summer we witnessed an explosion of Cobra Pride as the Founding Classes of Whites Creek celebrated twenty or more years of Cobra Pride.  The Classes of 87 and 97 also celebrated their 20 and 10 year reunions.  This past summer helped the Alumni Association learn and appreciate the great history of Whites Creek’s founding classes.  We now have a greater appreciation of those who came before us and who paved the way for all WCHS alumni.

Over the next few months, we intend to reflect this great legacy in all we do and to share this legacy with the entire Whites Creek alumni community.

On September 28, 2007, the Alumni Association is hosting the Second Annual “Pack the Stands at Homecoming.”  Last year we truly packed the stands with 100s of alumni from all over the city.  This year we want to double and triple our numbers with alumni from all over the nation!  Please plan to be there showing your school spirit by wearing red, white and blue!

At the same time, we know the School needs us in a very big way in order to prevent the school from being taken over by the State.  WCHS has been identified by the Tennessee Department of Education as a “High Priority 2” School under the “No Child Left Behind Act.”  If we do not act now, the State of Tennessee may takeover the school.  We do not want this to happen.  And we know that TOGETHER, WE can accomplish anything.  Therefore, we are calling on all alumni to get involved with the Alumni Association and the school in order to keep our legacy alive.

On October 9, 2007, the Alumni Association will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting to talk about how we can save our school.  The Town Hall Meeting will be held Tuesday, October 9, 2007 in the Whites Creek Auditorium starting at 6:00 pm. We plan to have dinner for all who attend.

Until Next Time, GO COBRAS!!
